Our 4 day weekend
trips are for novice to experienced paddlers who want to get out of
the city and do something exciting! These trips are designed for a variety
of participants. Many of our participants want to learn whitewater and
wilderness travel skills; some want to return to a place that they love
and others want to get away from it all and rejuvenate in nature’s
beauty! Whatever your motivation, we have a trip for you!
Depending on the ability of the group and the water levels, we paddle
one of the Three Sister Rivers in Quebec – the Dumoine,
the Coulonge, the Noire – or we paddle the Petawawa in Algonquin Park.
Each of these rivers offers exciting whitewater and amazing wilderness
vistas. With short daily paddling distances we have plenty of time to
play in the best rapids and to ponder the awesome force of the major
waterfalls! At the end of the day, enjoy delicious meals, time to relax
around the campfire and the camaraderie of fellow paddlers!
All

The Rivers we choose from:
The
Dumoine river has long been a canoe tripping icon. Flowing through
the heart of the Ottawa Valley, the river has a rustic charm that hearkens
back to a pioneering spirit. The best rapids section is "drop and
pool" allowing for moments to relax and catch your breath, (or
bail your canoe) before heading on down for more excitement.
The Noire has
an almost creek-like charm. It has some of the longest continuous rapids
of these three rivers. Starting off approximately 90 km from the mouth
we experience the best the Noire has to offer. As though made for canoeing,
the shallow technical runs offer boaters excellent play time. The more
technical class III rapids are "pool and drop", offering a
good challenge for the adventurous. The Noire's pushy current, tight
turns, and tighter portages make it a must paddle for those interested
in a truly classic creek run. Campsites on the upper part of the river
tend to be surrounded by mixed forest, and toward the lower part of
the river become spacious beach havens. Parts of this route can be challenging,
but our talented staff will teach you what you need to know to enjoy
this journey!
The Coulonge is the least inhabited of these three rivers and still carries a feel
of remoteness almost all the way to the end of our trip route. Well
worn portage trails and forgiving rapids make this a prime river for
beginners.
The Petawawa runs
through the heart of Algonquin Park. Some say the Petawawa is the birthplace
of whitewater canoeing in Canada and here’s your chance to become
part of the tradition! We run the section of river between lake Travers
and and Lake McManus. This is ideal for those interested in learning
some new river moves in a beautiful setting! Whitewater sections like
The Natch, and Rollaway Rapids offer good class II-III play. Long stretches
of continuous class I rapids are an ideal opportunity to practice those
peel-outs and eddy turns. This river is truly a whitewater playground
where most of the rapids are “run-able” and portages are
rare.
