Sample Youth Canoe Trip Menu |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Please note, this menu is only a sample. Some meals may be altered on your canoe trip. Adult and family trips may make requests for special trip meals. Let us know if it will be your birthday on trip for a special surprise!Go straight to menuAll PaddleFoot youth trip menus are vegetarian (we don't carry refrigerators!) Menus are well balanced, and include vegetable and soy-based proteins to replace proteins usually found in meats. While fish are not included in the menu, some participants choose to bring fishing rods and licenses, and when they catch something, it usually goes along with dinner. Adult groups may request non-vegetarian fare for the first evening meal. Each
canoe trip goes out with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement
most meals, keeping the menu interesting. To Accommodate the large amount
of food we need to bring on trips, PaddleFoot carries a lot of dehydrated
goods. This includes vegetables, as well as legumes, and even eggs. To save
on space, we bake a lot of our own bread.Highlights of the canoe trip menu include fresh baked breads, a variety of dishes with an international flavour, scrumptious deserts, and generous portions. No one ever goes hungry-- we bring lots of food so that everyone gets enough to eat; after all, canoeing can really develop an appetite! Many
people wonder if we carry water with us on trip. Well, we are on the water
all day, and in most places the water is fine for drinking after it has
gone through one of our high-tech water filters or has been treated with
one of a variety of purification systems. At places like James Bay or in
very high traffic areas, we pre-treat extra water and carry it with us so
that no one ever suffers from dehydration. Juice crystals in a
wide variety of flavours encourage children to keep drinking.Meals are usually cooked over an open fire. We carry stoves for cooking in areas where wood is scarce, or for extended periods of inclement weather. On all trips, each participant is encouraged to help with the food preparation. Nothing tastes better than a meal you've prepared yourself.
