Rescue
3 International
Swiftwater Rescue Technician® 1 (SRT1)
This class is an intensive three-day, 30-hour class. It has one day
of classroom instruction followed by two days developing and practicing
water rescue skills.
The initial emphasis is on developing self-rescue skills. Other objectives
include an in-depth look at: controlling in-water contact rescues, handling
hazards and obstacles, setting up technical rope systems, understanding
water dynamics, and using basic rescue equipment. The WRT curriculum is taught as a boaters course. The focus is on fast and efficient rescues with very little equipment.
Participants should be in good physical condition, and should be good
swimmers. We spend a lot of time in the water, so wetsuits are recommended.
The course is taught with at least one search and rescue scenario, usually
at night. Participants have the opportunity to practice roles from up-
and downstream safety to incident command.
Rescue 3 International
Whitewater Rescue Technician® A (SRTA)
This course concentrates further on the rescue of the victim, integrating
SRT1 techniques into more difficult and technical white water situations. It is a
two-day class with approximately four hours of classroom presentation.
Students develop skill competency during a night river rescue simulation.
Among the topics covered are: managing rescue organization, raising/lowering
systems Incident Command and scene management, utilization of teams,
communication, application of Tyrolean and other advanced rope techniques.
Participants should be in good physical condition, and should be good
swimmers. Again, we spend a lot of time in the water, so wetsuits are
recommended.
